It’s always fun to hit the playground at school or the local park. But even at the safest parks and in a familiar backyard there are a lot of ways to injure yourself on playground equipment.
Is it broken:
You just fell pretty hard and put your arms out to break your fall. Here’s a quick way to check to see if
• Can you move your fingers?
• Can you move your wrist?
• Can you move your elbow?
• If you answered “yes” to all of these, you’re going to be alright. If there’s any question, it’s always best to get it checked out by a doctor.
A majority of injuries can be prevented by proper adult supervision. Kids are adventurous. Sometimes they try to take on a piece of equipment that’s too big for them, and they need someone to help them realize they might not be ready for a piece of equipment of that size. It’s also always important to have an adult on the scene in case an injury occurs.
Trampolines can are inherently dangerous. Not only do they often lead to forearm and elbow fractures, but they’re also the cause of many head, neck and spine injuries. Anytime someone lands awkwardly, have numbness, tingling that won’t go away, or lose consciousness, don’t move the person and call 911 immediately.
